  About Slot Machines History

In the later part of the 19th century, a man by the name of Charles Fay brainstormed the concept for slot machines. In 1887, his idea came to light. He was a smart man and his innovations stretch far beyond the simple game of slots. He always planned that the slot machine would be not just entertaining, but a huge money maker, too.

After making the first few machines, he leased them out to gaming parlors in exchange for a reported 50 percent of the profits. This man clearly understood the impact of his creation from the very inception. Even though the machines were not legal in many places at the time, he knew they would be very popular.

The first actual slot machine he invented in 1895 was called the Liberty Bell. This slot machine had 3 reels. The symbols were diamonds, hearts, spades, and each reel had one Liberty Bell. As you might imagine, 3 bells in a row had the biggest payoff.

Those of you seeking a real piece of physical history of slot machines can find the original Liberty Bell slot machine at the Liberty Belle Saloon and Restaurant in Reno, Nevada.

It seems that the actual term slot machine comes from the old automatic vending machines used back in time. These days, to keep up will the huge demand for slot machines; many companies have been formed that build these machines with high-tech computer chips.
